Present Continuous Tense उन actions के लिए प्रयोग होता है जो अभी (इस समय) हो रही हैं, या आस–पास के समय में चल रही होती हैं।

Definition (परिभाषा)
Present Continuous Tense का उपयोग किसी ऐसी क्रिया को दर्शाने के लिए किया जाता है जो वर्तमान समय में चल रही होती है या अभी-अभी शुरू हुई है और जारी है। इस tense में action temporary होती है, यानी वह स्थायी नहीं है।
इस tense की पहचान आमतौर पर वाक्य में “रहा है”, “रही है”, “रहे हैं” जैसे शब्दों से होती है। इसका structure होता है:
Subject + is/am/are + verb की -ing form + object
उदाहरण:
I am reading a book.
She is cooking dinner.
They are playing football.
Present Continuous Tense न सिर्फ वर्तमान में चल रही गतिविधियों को बताता है, बल्कि निकट भविष्य की योजनाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए भी इस्तेमाल होता है, जैसे – “I am meeting my friend tomorrow.”
यह tense दैनिक बातचीत, लेखन, और व्यावहारिक English में बहुत उपयोगी है।
Usage (कब और क्यों प्रयोग करते हैं?)
Present Continuous Tense का प्रयोग इन परिस्थितियों में किया जाता है:
(a) Action happening right now (अभी हो रही क्रिया):
जो क्रिया अभी इस वक्त हो रही हो।
- I am talking to you.
- He is drinking water.
(b) Action happening around now (इन दिनों हो रही क्रिया):
जो अभी इन दिनों या temporary period में हो रही हो।
- I am learning Spanish these days.
- She is working on a new project.
(c) Near future plans (नजदीकी भविष्य की योजनाएँ):
अगर कोई काम निश्चित रूप से होने वाला है (बहुत जल्द), तो भी हम इसका उपयोग करते हैं।
- We are meeting the principal tomorrow.
- I am going to Dubai next week.
Structure (बनावट)
Present Continuous Tense में verb के साथ “is / am / are” + verb + ing का प्रयोग होता है।
(A) Affirmative Sentences (सकारात्मक वाक्य)

- I am reading a book.
- He is playing cricket.
- They are watching TV.
Rule:
- I ➝ am
- He/She/It ➝ is
- You/We/They ➝ are
(B) Negative Sentences (नकारात्मक वाक्य)
Structure | Subject + is/am/are + not + Verb-ing + Object |
Examples:
- I am not sleeping now.
- She is not cooking dinner.
- We are not going to school today.
(C) Interrogative Sentences (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य)
Structure | Is/Am/Are + Subject + Verb-ing + Object? |
Examples:
- Are you coming with me?
- Is he watching the match?
- Am I doing it right?
Keywords से पहचानिए Present Continuous Tense:
कुछ संकेतक शब्द (keywords) जो इस tense में दिखाई देते हैं:
- now, right now, at the moment, currently, these days, today, this week
Examples:
- She is sleeping right now.
- They are working from home these days.

- मैं अभी खाना खा रहा हूँ।
- वह स्कूल जा रही है।
- वे फुटबॉल खेल रहे हैं।

- हम इस समय पढ़ाई नहीं कर रहे हैं।
उत्तर:
- I am eating food now.
- She is going to school.
- They are playing football.

- We are not studying at the moment.
